NOTABLE PROJECTS IN TEXAS
Texas Tick Project
Baylor College of Medicine
Free Tick Testing Offered!
The National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine is doing a study to determine the risk of tick-borne disease in Texas. We are asking the community to submit any ticks they find in the environment on pets, or on hunter-harvested animals for testing.
Gulf South Vector
Gulf South VECTOR unites partners from the Gulf and beyond to prevent and control vector-borne diseases through a holistic, multi-sectoral approach. The collaborative aims to assess critical gaps in core competencies that hinder regional capacity to respond to the escalating threat posed by vector-borne diseases in the United States. The products produced will provide tools that enhance vector-borne disease surveillance and control capabilities and effectively train the next generation of professionals.
Rockies and High Plains Vector-borne Diseases Center
The Rockies and high plains are home to a high proportion of the national vector-borne disease burden in the United States, due in part to local ecology and the prevalence of capable vector species. The Rockies and High Plains Vector-Borne Diseases training and evaluation center (RaHP VEC) has assembled a diverse group of researchers, public health professionals, and vector control specialists to understand and address the vector control challenges in this region, in order to serve the public by reducing their exposure to vector-borne diseases.
